(mask image by Brenda Lyons Falcon Moon Studio on facebook) Do you really believe you can create authentic, intimate relationships if you are wearing a mask. A mask of being what you think the prevailing society expects of you.

In general men and women create their masks by the things they are told and see, explicitly and implicitly, especially when we are kids.

Boys are told not to cry, to be a man, to be active, to be producers and consumer of goods.

Girls are told they are worthless if they are not busy, productive, assertive like a traditional male role.

Both genders are "told" care, empathy, nurturing, human warmth, human connection, relationship, stillness, gentleness, aesthetics, community is not valued implicitly by a society that values production, consumerism and technology over human honesty, warmth and connection.

A prevailing society that values…

Doing, action, bravado

Not

Being, caring, sensing, vulnerability

What has happened to what we call feminine qualities in both men, women and society?

Nurturing

Caring

Empathy

Warmth

Relationship

Human connection

Trust

Honesty

Playfulness

Vulnerability
